Overview

Can the study of history be presented so the reader understands the relevance of centuries-old events as the 21str century continues to unfold? The authors of Christian Education: A History and Heritage have created a textbook that will help the student understand how the way we learn today is built on a foundation that is influenced by methods of teaching going back over 4,000 years.

Each chapter is based on a period of history beginning with early Hebrew education. Each period is viewed through the following lenses:

  • Overview of the period (historical setting)
  • Purpose of education (what was to be accomplished)
  • Educational contexts (physical environment and methods)
  • Educational content (what was being taught), and
  • Voices (the primary shapers of education in the period).
